FIVE people are said to have perished while an undisclosed number was injured when a Tamuka Luxury coach crashed in Mokopane, Limpopo province in South Africa Sunday evening.
According to media reports, the cross-border bus travelling from Johannesburg overturned on the N1 north towards the Nyl Plaza outside Mokopane around 5.30PM.
Constituting the deceased were four men and a woman, reports said, adding that many passengers sustained injuries of varying degrees and were transported to nearby hospitals in Mokopane for medical attention.
The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety confirmed the accident.
The incident comes hot on the heels of yet another road traffic accident that claimed the lives of 10 people. A Mzansi Express bus travelling from Harare to Johannesburg was involved in a crash near Polokwane just before midnight last Tuesday in a stark reminder of the deadly nature of the South African highways.
