ZANU PF secretary for Administration in the Women’s League and Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Minister Monica Mutsvangwa has praised President Mnangagwa for delivering on his promises of development and inclusive growth.
Addressing jubilant crowds on Sunday at Presidential Victory Celebrations held at Chitora Secondary School in Mutare South and Munyoro Secondary School in Chimanimani West Constituency, Cde Mutsvangwa thanked the people of Manicaland for voting resoundingly for President Mnangagwa in the 2023 harmonised elections.
“You voted well. Thank you for putting your faith in a leader who has Zimbabwe at heart. President Mnangagwa is spearheading great development across all provinces. No one and no place is being left behind, and that is the spirit of Vision 2030,” she said.
Senator Mutsvangwa said the country was on a path of transformation because of the leadership qualities of the President, who has prioritised rural industrialisation, infrastructure rehabilitation and national electrification.
“Our President is a man of action. He has brought in investors to help electrify our rural areas. When we have electricity in the rural areas, it means we can industrialise our own local economies and empower communities,” she said.
Sen Mutsvangwa took time to reflect on the scars left by Cyclone Idai in 2019, which devastated parts of Chimanimani, Chipinge and surrounding districts.
“We lost a lot bridges, schools, clinics and even lives. But our President did not look away. He rolled up his sleeves and through Vision 2030, he ensured that all the damaged infrastructure was rebuilt stronger and better. A leader should have vision. And the President has a clear one for Zimbabwe,” she said.
Sen Mutsvangwa also encouraged constituents to take advantage of Government programmes such as the recapitalisation of the Zimbabwe Women’s Microfinance Bank (ZWMB), which she said was a deliberate move to empower women economically.
“ZWMB has been recapitalised and women should seize this opportunity. Empowered women mean empowered communities. That is what President Mnangagwa stands for,” she added.
Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza, who also attended the celebrations, echoed Sen Mutsvangwa’s sentiments, describing the President as a pragmatic leader with the people at heart.
“Our President is not one who makes empty promises. He has delivered real change on the ground. We are soon launching a massive solar rollout programme that will see 25 000 solar kits distributed across Manicaland. The pilot for that is starting right here in Ward 7, Mutare South,” said Minister Mugadza.
He said the solar kits programme was yet another testimony to the President’s vision of clean, sustainable energy access for all, especially in rural areas.
“President Mnangagwa believes that rural people must enjoy the same development as those in urban centres. That is why you now see roads being built in areas that were once neglected, bridges being constructed were none existed and clinics being opened closer to our people,” he said.
Villagers who attended the celebrations expressed gratitude to the Government, saying the difference was now visible in their everyday lives.
Mrs Chipo Musara of Mhandarume said one of the President’s developments, which is the Mhandarume Clinic in Chimanimani had come in handy.
“I used to walk 15 kilometres to get to the nearest clinic, but now we have one just nearby, thanks to this Government. We are grateful to the President. We voted for him and he has not forgotten us,” she said.
Another resident, Mr Amos Nyatondo of Chitora, said the solar kits programme would be a game changer for villagers who have never had access to electricity.
“We grew up using paraffin lamps and candles, but now we will have solar lights and even charge our phones from home. That is real development,” he said.
