Chamisa’s Bindura launch rally blocked again

A Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) political party rally has been cancelled by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) this time giving the excuse that they can’t handle crowds at an underdeveloped piece of land.
The latest cancellation is the third one inside one week following two other rallies which were banned for reasons that the Zanu-pf party were already booked there.
The opposition political party had already sent out fliers marketing the Bindura event which was scheduled to take place over the weekend.
But in a usual shift, ZRP Regulating Authority for Bindura District banned the event saying the application was filed on very short notice as well as the remoteness of the venue.
“The venue falls within an underdeveloped piece of land which is bushy without serviceable roads, water and sewer facilities. It provides a high security threat to the participants .There is also a high risk of threat to the spread of any communicable diseases .
In the event of any public disorder , the police and other emergency services would have challenges to access the venue due to poor road network,” ZRP Bindura said.
As a result, the police said , our mandate to protect life and property and to maintain Law and Order will be compromised.
“Lastly your notification did not give sufficient notice to the regulatory authority as provided by MOPA.
“May you consider securing another venue and provide sufficient notification as required by provisions of MOPA another suitable venue and provide sufficient notification as required by the provisions of MOPA,” the letter added.
