THE government says the Harare-Beitbridge Road completion has been set for early next year on the back of indications of wrapping up residual tasks by contracted companies.
The Harare-Beitbridge Road, also known as the A4 or R1, is a major Zimbabwean highway that is undergoing significant rehabilitation and upgrading, with the project nearing completion and most sections already open to traffic.
This 580 km road connects the capital, Harare, to the Beitbridge Border Post with South Africa, passing through Masvingo.

The upgrading of the Harare-Masvingo-Beitbridge Road recently entered its final stage, with over 490 kilometers now open to traffic and only 83 kilometers left to complete the project.
Speaking to journalistists on the sidelines of the Transport and Infrastructural Development Ministry organized Media Tour, Deputy Minister Joshua Sacco expressed gratitude over the progress made so far.
“Mine are just words of appreciation, I think we ‘ve had a very successful day starting in Masvingo where we saw the Mucheke Bridge,Trabablas two or whatever it will be called but the bridge will ease congestion in Masvingo .The sections we have seen are being done by Masimba Construction, Fossil, Bitumen and Exodus Construction.
“It is very important to us as the Ministry of Transport for the Beitbridge Highway being the key corridor to the North where South Africa which is one of our key trading partners lies and even the volume of traffic we see on the roads tells a big story that this project is very crucial.

“I think as a Ministry we would love to have this road completed by early next year. All the roads sections as well as the bridges and interchanges must be completed .There are a number of projects which are also in the pipeline,” he said.
Work on the construction and rehabilitation of the Harare-Beitbridge highway has progressed significantly with residual parts now open to traffic.
The project, which is under the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme Phase 2 (ERRP2), has seen five local companies namely; Masimba Holdings, Fossil Contracting, Exodus and Company and Bitumen World being contracted to upgrade the Highway.
