NEC Food crisis: Labour Ministry convenes urgent meeting

By Staff Writer
THE Labour Ministry has called for an urgent meeting to resolve the biased allocation of seats at the National Employment Council (NEC) for Food and the Allied Industries.
This follows numerous complaints by the Food Federation and Allied Workers Union of Zimbabwe (FFAWUZ) to authorities alleging deep rot and maladministration at the NEC Food where top management were accused of unfairly distributing seats among a few aligned trade unions.
Just last week the FFAWUZ secretary general Runesu Dzimiri and other disgruntled union representatives kicked the NEC Food General Secretary Malini Mpango out of office due to a series of corrupt and bad governance allegations.
The organisation remains closed with the disgruntled faction demanding thorough investigations before commencement of business.
In yet a new development on the issues affecting the NEC Food , the Acting Registrar of Labour in the Labour Ministry , S Gweshe this week said a crisis meeting to resolve seats sharing at the NEC is set to be convened.
“Following our letter dated November 13 2023 we are also in receipt of letter of complaints from different unions registered in the food and allied industries requesting the Labour Ministry to intervene on the above mentioned issue.
“The Ministry is therefore inviting two representatives from each party registered in the industry to attend a meeting at 10:00 hrs on Thursday February 8,Kaguvi Building 9th Floor,” he said.
