Malcolm Masarira, popularly known as Cde Traore, had his top-of-the-range vehicle a gift from President Emmerson Mnangagwa set on fire by unknown assailants last night, with the blaze spreading to his house and destroying household property. No one was injured.
Traore said President Emmerson Mnangagwa gave him the vehicle as a gift a few days ago.
Malcolm Masarira, popularly known as Cde Traore, is a Zimbabwean political figure whose loyalties have shifted in recent years.
He first made a name for himself as a leader of the anti-ED 2030 Geza Movement, a group led by the late war veteran Blessed Geza that opposed plans to extend President Mnangagwa’s rule beyond 2030.
In October 2025, he was arrested and spent a month in remand prison.
After his release, he changed his political stance and became a strong supporter of President Mnangagwa. It was after this change that he reportedly received the top-of-the-range vehicle that was set on fire last night.
