HPost Live : The atmosphere in Harare and most parts of the country remains tense following calls for mass protests against the recently passed Constitutional Amendment Act (CAA)3.
Some businesses have remained closed for fear of violent protests, but others are operating as usual.
Public service vehicles in some residential areas have remained parked as drivers cautiously monitor the situation.
There are fewer people in the central business districts of Harare and Bulawayo.
The city is mostly calm with a heavy security presence following warnings against planned anti-government protests, alongside ongoing municipal crackdowns on non-compliant businesses and cool, sunny weather.
Reduced movement and congestion in central business districts.
– Increased deployment of police officers in urban centres.
– Reports of an unusually high number of warrants of arrest issued by Magistrates’ Courts following the non-attendance of accused persons, largely attributed to transport challenges.
– No vendor activity at Freedom Square, with the area occupied by police and water cannons.
– Reports of reduced attendance at schools in several parts of the country.
These are preliminary observations, and we continue to monitor developments across the country.
The indications so far suggest that many Zimbabweans have chosen to stay away as a peaceful expression of their views on Constitutional Amendment Act No. 6 of 2026 (formerly CAB3).
