CCC MP for Ruwa, Thomas Muwozori, Thursday rejected key electoral provisions in the Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill, arguing that Zimbabwe’s electoral system should be reformed rather than fundamentally altered.
Thomas Muwozori, who is the MP for Ruwa, said he does not support the Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill. He explained that the country’s election system needs small fixes, not big changes.
“I reject the creation of the new delimitation commission,” Muwozori said. He added that if the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) did a poor job in the past, the answer is to improve it, not replace it.
The MP also said no to moving voter registration from ZEC to the Registrar-General’s Office. He gave a reason: “The reason it was removed from the RG’s office in the first place was because of lack of credibility and interference from the executive.”
Muwozori pointed out that ZEC has already spent money on equipment and buildings for voter registration.
