By Staff Reporter

TRANSPORT and Infrastructural Development Minister, Felix Mhona Saturday burst into tears as he paid his last respects to the Mujuru Family following the loss of six lives in a fatal accident along the Masvingo Highway.

The  government official cut short his Easter Holidays to share the moment of grief with mourners  following the loss of six  family members ; Lilian (40), and her  five children — Nokutenda (15), Makanaka (13), Ronald Junior (11), Rufaro Shalom (7) and little Kayden (3) — all of the Mujuru Family- killed instantly in a head-on collision along Masvingo Road, near Mvuma.

Having gathered some courage, Mhona, widely known for his selflessness and exemplary humility   expressed his condolences.

“We have all been struck by sadness over the heartless loss of six lives. What is more painful is the fact that these are members of the same family who perished in a road traffic accident. This is so painful. We have lost as a nation. President Emmerson Mnangagwa is aware of this incident and he has sent me to express his condolences,” he said.

The Transport Minister implored Zimbabweans to exercise Ubuntu by avoiding the circulation of sensitive content recorded from accident scenes on social media.

“I urge the people of Zimbabwe to value our culture and tradition . . . by not posting videos and photographs of accident victims on social media. Let us consider how such videos affect relatives of the victims and the general public,” added Mhona.

Public holidays in Zimbabwe, particularly Easter, Independence, Heroes, and the Festive Season, consistently record high volumes of road traffic accidents (RTAs) due to increased travel.

According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), while some years show a decrease in fatalities, the total number of accidents and injuries often remains high.
