ZRP arrests 636 in anti-drug blitz; public fears real culprits being protected

ZIMBABWE Republic Police (ZRP) has revealed that to date, a total 636 people countrywide have been arrested under the recently launched anti-drugs operation.
The tide of drugs has taken the nation by storm, widely affecting school going children.
A highly esteemed Roman Catholic owned Dominican Convent School made headlines recently after a group of A ‘Level students was caught sharing drugs during a leadership camp outing early this year.
The incident triggered concerns and became a catalyst for authorities to call it a day with drug dealers.
“Police arrested 277 people countrywide on operation, “No to dangerous drugs and illicit substances, bringing cumulative arrests to 636,” said ZRP in an update.
Last month, a former police officer was arrested together with two other accomplices for allegedly possessing and dealing in illegal drugs.
The arrest followed a police raid at an Entumbane suburb home where the trio was allegedly conducting its illegal activities.
However, members of the public have raised concerns that highly connected officials who are in the business of importing drugs are not being arrested and in the process, creating a situation where only pawns in the business are being targeted.
