ZOU 25th graduation caps 3 320 graduands; late Sen Timveous honored posthumously

President and Chancellor of all State Universities Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa capped 3320 graduands on Friday 6 December 2024 at the Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) Hatcliffe Campus in Harare.

The ZOU 22nd Graduation Ceremony which coincided with the ZOU 25th anniversary commemorations, was running under the theme, “Celebrating 25 Years of Unlocking Human Capital Potential Through Open & Distance e-Learning.

The theme appeals to the class of 2024 to leverage their potential for the country to realize Vision 2030.

The Silver Jubilee marks the innovation,refinement, sleekness and sophistication of the institution.

In the quarter of a century, ZOU has produced 53 170 graduates and delivered free training courses to 59 443 members across all the country’s 10 provinces.

This year’s graduation consisted of 2154 female graduands while 1166 were male graduands.

Among those who graduated are Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation’s Chief Producer Television Bulletins,Chenai Masawi and Senior Picture Editor Jeremiah Mahoso, Mashonaland East Bureau Chief Jerold Sasa and Good Morning Zimbabwe Executive Producer,Guy Mawunidzo.

The Herald Editor Victoria Ruzvidzo and The Saturday Herald columnist Rutendo Gwatidzo were among the graduates at the Zimbabwe Open University 22nd Graduation Ceremony.

Some of the graduates included the late Senator Lilian Timveous who was capped posthumously with a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Development Studies,Zanu PF provincial Chairman for Masvingo P r o v i n c e , S e n a t o r R o b s o n Mavhenyengwa graduated with a Master of Social Science Degree in Development Studies and a 78-year-old Andreas Zvaiwa who graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in Counselling.
