Tshabangu ‘s appointed Senator dies

Harare Senator Tambudzai Kunaka, who was appointed to Parliament in 2024 by controversial Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Sengezo Tshabangu, has died.
According to CCC sources, Kunaka — popularly known by her nickname Chihera — passed away on Tuesday evening.
A party insider described her as a veteran of Zimbabwe’s opposition politics despite later aligning with Tshabangu.
“We regret to inform you that Tambudzai Kunaka, who was known as Chihera, died last night. Chihera worked closely with us as part of the team that defended President Chamisa on social media, especially during the days of Douglas Mwonzora. She was a star. Although she was later appointed to the Senate by Tshabangu, we remember her for the good work she did with us in the MDC-T, the Alliance, and later the CCC. May her soul rest in peace,” the source said.
The insider also reflected on her resilience during turbulent political times. “She was a fighter. We went through very difficult days together, especially after the 2014 congress. She was a strong cadre. Yes, things later took a different turn, as has been said, but we walked in faith with her until she went to the Senate under Tshabangu. Some of us mourn with her family and remember the role she played from the time of President Tsvangirai right through to President Chamisa.”
Kunaka’s death has sparked tributes across opposition circles, with many recalling her outspoken role in the opposition movement before her controversial appointment under Tshabangu’s camp.
