A total 200 beneficiaries have received handouts from the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) in a gesture also supported by top companies in the telecommunications sector.
The beneficiaries drawn from Mudzi and Mt Darwin Districts received blankets and foodstuffs.
Top companies in the sector like Econet, NetOne, DFA, NBS, Liquid Intelligent Technologies, Innovative Technologies, TelOne, Telco, ZB Bank and Fedex supported POTRAZ to make the day a reality.
At the handover ceremony POTRAZ director general, Dr Gift Machengete said he was elected to be handing over the foods to the beneficiaries.
“I am happy to be presiding over the handover of goods that were procured for the less privileged using proceeds from the POTRAZ Charity Golf Day which was held earlier in the year” he said.
“From the very onset, I would like to say as POTRAZ we are humbled by the enormous support that we received through this initiative where we have partner a number of stakeholders to bring a little cheer to vulnerable and less privileged groups in our communities” he added.
Quoting from renowned author, Robin Sharma Dr Machengete said “I learned to give not because I have much; but because I know exactly how it feels to have NOTHING”.
“Whether we come from lack or plenty, we can surely imagine and appreciate how it feels to have nothing and how it would feel to get some relief from that state of lack”, director general stated.
“It is against this background that this occasion excites me and gives me a great sense of fulfilment – fulfilment from knowing that we are making a difference in the lives of a few people”, he elaborated.
“It is our moral right to make a difference – we owe it to humanity. In the words of Nelson Mandela “Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity, it is an act of justice.” Nelson Mandela also reminds us that “It is in our hands to make a better world for all who live in it”, expressed Dr Machengete.
“Today, we handover support in the form of food stuffs, blankets, toiletries, and other necessities to beneficiaries from Mashonaland East and Mashonaland Central provinces, which beneficiaries have been identified through the Department of Social Welfare in the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare”, Dr Machengete said.
He thanked the Department of Social Welfare for always heeding to their requests for partnership in their Corporate Social Responsibility programs (CSR).
“In the same breath, I would like to thank all stakeholders – individuals and corporates alike – who have made this day possible”, he added.
