Mnangagwa pardons 4 270 prisoners

By staff Writer

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has pardoned 4 270 prisoners amid calls by the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) for society to play their part in assisting with their reintegration.

In an update, the ZPCS said the latest move comes after following the meticulous process of verifying potential beneficiaries on the exercise of releasing inmates.

“We would like to appeal to close family members, stakeholders and the society at large to embrace and accept inmates who have been released on amnesty. Successful reintegration of inmates back to society is not the sole mandate of the ZCPS alone but it requires combined efforts from all citizens of Zimbabwe.

“The inmates were being rehabilitated and have been serving for the offences they committed for the state; therefore, those aggrieved are encouraged forgiving them for their successful reintegration into the society,” said ZPCS.

Out of the total 4 166 are male while 104 are female.
