By Health Reporter

HARARE – Significant progress is being made in the ongoing renovation of two of Zimbabwe’s key public health facilities—Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals and Mbuya Nehanda Maternity Hospital—as part of a broader government drive to modernise healthcare infrastructure.

At Parirenyatwa, refurbishment of the nurses’ residence has reached 70% completion. As part of the improvements, a 120kW solar power system has been successfully installed, offering a more sustainable and reliable energy supply. In addition, eight new boreholes have been drilled on the hospital premises, enhancing access to clean water for staff and patients alike.

Meanwhile, Mbuya Nehanda Maternity Hospital is undergoing a major overhaul, with demolition works now 90% complete. The renovation phase is already underway, with 15% of the planned works completed, paving the way for a modernised maternity care environment.
The ongoing upgrades are part of efforts to improve working and living conditions for healthcare workers while enhancing service delivery in public health institutions across the country.

The Mbuya Nehanda Hospital refurbishment project entails demolition of some undesirable parts.

“We have completed plumbing, electrical, flooring, and ceilings, all to a high-quality standard. We expect to hand over Adlam House on September the 1st. For Mbuya Nehanda, we are creating a state-of-the-art maternity facility, modern reception, upgraded ducts, plumbing, and an environmentally sustainable design,” Public relations manager Prevail, Tariro Dondo said.

After completion, Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals is expected to offer nurses and patients improved accommodation and care facilities.
