Gloves Off: Did VP Chiwenga ‘blast’ Wicknell Chivayo for ill- gotten wealth?

By Staff Reporter
IT was gloves off Monday when Vice President Constantino Chiwenga effectively took a dig on the country’s popular mbingas describing them as people who brag about with ill-gotten wealth.
The statement generated speculation with many taking it to social media claiming the mbinga being targeted was Wicknell Chivayo.
Mbinga – a street definition referring to “a rich hustler”, usually male, but could also be a “rich auntie” with a deep (often shady) source of wealth.
Addressing mourners at the burial of the late top bureaucrat, Chiwenga castigated the country’s mbinga’s giving a detailed description of the Chivayo.
“Our Vision 2030 is for all of us,kwete dzamunoti mbinga! Kuhondo taidziti zvigananda: those who grow big tummies through ill-gotten wealth and questionable morals! A nation is as developed as its weakest man and woman, indeed as its remotest part.
“The government is fully aware of the issues that are affecting the citizenry such as unreliable public transport, unregulated informal market, health and infrastructure challenges which are already being addressed irrespective of all these we must remain united and focused.
“Let us remain vigilant and ready to defend our country, its resources and ideals, including its values and culture,” he said.
The developments have led speculators to suspect that fights within the ruling Zanu-PF party have reached a crescendo with nasty fights now going to another stage.
