A high level delegation from EEP Africa Wednesday toured supported projects in Zimbabwe where the implementing companies demonstrated community transforming impact.

EEP Africa is a clean energy financing facility hosted and managed by the Nordic Development Fund (NDF) with funding from Austria, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, NDF and Switzerland.

The organization  is guided by a vision for a climate-resilient, zero-carbon future with the aim of contributing to the achievement of the Paris Agreement on climate change and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

It provides early-stage grant and catalytic financing to innovative clean energy projects, technologies and business models in 15 countries across Southern and Eastern Africa. Project financing is supplemented by technical support, investment facilitation and knowledge sharing.

Since 2018, the organization brought on board five local companies which have all managed to realize their dreams.

The delegation toured Harare and Domboshava and Harare in a bid to touch base with the progress made so far.

EEP Africa- NDF fund manager, Jussi Viding said the observed projects were impressive and committed to bring more companies on board.

“We call out for proposals because we provide financing through a competitive application process. This year we made a call and I think there will be three more that are now in the contracting phase projects being funded in Zimbabwe.

“The list will soon be finalised and the names of the qualifying companies will be publicized before the launch of the next call for proposals in February next year depending on the quality of the applications,” he said.

Several women employed by the companies under the funded projects also confirmed that their livelihoods were changed as they can now fend for their families .
