THE Magistrates Court has acquitted Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activist, Jameson Timba and 77 others have been acquitted of disorderly conduct.
Magistrate Ncube ruled that the alleged gathering of the 77 Harare residents was at a private residence, hence they did not commit any offence as alleged by prosecutors and police officers, who roughed them up & assaulted them upon arrest.
However, the other charge on unlawful gathering has not yet been finalized.
In a statement, the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) confirmed the developments.
“The persecution and prosecution of Senator Timba and 77 Harare residents has suffered a spectacular collapse after Magistrate Colleta Ncube acquitted them of disorderly conduct charges having spent 3 months in prison detention following their arrest in June at Senator Timba’s residence,” said the statement.
