OPPOSITION spokesperson, Fadzai Mahere has called on Zimbabweans to put on BLACK this Friday in protest against the continued arrest of prominent activist, Makomborero Haruzivishe.
In an update Thursday, Mahere said the final bail hearing will be this week amid calls for a Black Friday.
“I’ve spoken to @MakomboreroH’s lawyers who advise that his final bail hearing is on Friday at 9am in the High Court. I call upon all progressives to act in solidarity with Mako on Friday & WEAR BLACK in protest against his unjust incarceration. Mako is innocent,” she said in a tweet.
The MDC- Alliance activist was expected to begin the New Year at home after the High Court ended his nine-monts incarceration last year.
Justice Cathrine Mzawazi of the Harare High Court quashed a decision by a magistrate to revoke Haruzivishe’s bail in March after he skipped a court appearance in a matter in which he is accused of holding Impala Car Rental workers hostage.
A month later, in April, Haruzivishe was convicted and jailed for an effective 14 months on a separate case of inciting public violence and resisting arrest.
In July, he secured bail pending appeal in that matter, but the earlier bail revocation in the Impala Car Rental case – which is still pending – kept him in jail.
However, his freedom bid hit a snag after one more pending case was raised there by leading to his continued detention which has spilled into 2022.
