LEADING mobile network operator, NetOne’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program has sustained the commitment to keep about 900 rural based youths occupied  while manning the service provider’s base stations  across the country.

The youngsters are benefitting from a community initiative to safeguard the service provider’s infrastructure in their respective areas as cases of vandalism impacted directly on their communication.

NetOne welcomed the program as it was seen as a way of instilling a sense of ownership and responsibility within these communities with the dual advantage of keeping the youths off substance drugs abuse and vandalism, making them champions of economic development.

The program quickly spread across the country.

“NetOne agreed to offer a token of US$100 per individual for all the 900 community based guards .This was the company’s way of giving back to the communities that had brought up such a noble idea.

The US$100 incentive was later reviewed to US$150,a gesture that shows how NetOne values its communities. Though the benefits were not contractual or mandatory, NetOne continued to roll them out as a way to appreciate good work being done,” said the company.

The company added  these individuals are not employees of NetOne but community overseers seconded by their respective communities in this shared responsibility of keeping our assets free from vandalism but are carrying out a responsibility of  bestowed upon them by their respective communities.
