THE Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has invaded the upmarket gated residential community, Arlington Estate demanding information on ownership and tenant occupancy status in pursuit of rental taxes.
The taxman has intensified enforcement of rental income taxes targeting property owners and landlords—starting with high-income and wealthier neighborhoods. A 15% presumptive rental income tax applies to gross rent received from tenants using properties for business, trade, or professional purposes.
In a statement , the Arlington Estate Management Committee this week advised homeowners that the Residents Association had received a formal request from the ZIMRA for Information relating to the properties within the Estate , including homeowners names , contact details and tenant information.
“The request has been made pursuant to Section 39 of the Income Tax Act (Chapter 23:06) which empowers the Commissioner to require persons to furnish further information for purposes of administering the Act. The Association is engaging with ZIMRA to ensure that the request is properly addressed and any information furnished is provided lawfully and within the applicable requirements.
“Homeowners are accordingly requested to co-operate by providing the Association with accurate details and up to property and occupancy information where required,” said the Association in a statement.
ZIMRA added that the management committee is taking appropriate steps to ensure that the Association fulfils its obligations while at the same time, safeguarding the interests and privacy of the Association and it home owners.
