Grace Mugabe’s AK47 wielding  hitmen leaves miners injured in Mazowe

By Agencies

On Tuesday, former First Lady Grace Mugabe allegedly led 20 armed men five with AK47s in an assault on artisanal miners at Mondo 3 Mine, Mazowe.

Victims were beaten with hammers, batons, and rifle butts, sustaining broken bones and head injuries. Witnesses state Mugabe forced miners to sit at her feet and address her as “Queen,” personally ordering beatings, including one to the ribs and another to the forehead with a hammer.

Four miners were treated at Concession District Hospital. A police report (CR32/07/26) was filed at Mazowe Police Station. Four of the five suspects have been arrested and were due in court Wednesday.

The mine borders the Mugabe family’s 1,300-hectare Smithfield Farm. This follows a similar July 2025 attack by her son Chatunga Mugabe, currently on US$200 bail for assault. Miners express fear of reprisals, citing her perceived impunity. Grace previously faced a South African arrest warrant for assault; her son was deported from SA in April 2026.
