Reduced license fees; Govt moves to align the law

GOVERNMENT has begun the legal processes to formalise recently announced reductions in fees and levies, as part of wide-ranging reforms to improve the ease of doing business.
Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Honourable Ziyambi Ziyambi, said the Attorney-General’s Office is currently reviewing statutory instruments and related legislation to align them with Cabinet’s directive.
Minister Ziyambi explained that while the Minister of Finance and Investment Promotion had announced the measures, the reductions can only take effect once the legal framework has been amended.
“Following Cabinet’s review of the fees, the Minister of Finance announced a raft of measures aimed at reducing fees, in line with the Government’s objective to ease the ease of doing business and improve the operating environment. However, for these measures to take effect, the legal framework must first be aligned. The Attorney General is now reviewing the relevant statutory instruments and legislation to ensure they reflect the Minister’s announcement.
In essence, while the Minister of Finance has announced the reductions, they are not yet legally enforceable until the relevant laws are amended. The Attorney General’s Office is now working on this process, in line with the Cabinet directive, to formalise the changes,” he said.
