CHINA’s Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt Limited local unit, Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe (PLZ) has to date rehabilitated the 26 km road which runs from Goromonzi turn off right through to the mine over and above the sprucing up of Kubatsirana Clinic.
The mining firm, which launched a US$300 million processing plant in July 2022, has a special focus on infrastructural development, agriculture, reducing environmental degradation, and boosting access to public health as well as education.
The PLZ public relations manager, Patience Mushore Chizodza revealed that massive community uplifting work has been undertaken to date.
“One of PLZ’s major projects was the rehabilitation of the 26km road that runs from Goromonzi turn-off right through to the mine. The gravel road was widened and it is regularly leveled and sprayed with water as long-term plans for the road are being mapped out. Consultations with various stakeholders are currently underway,” she said.
Chizodza underscored the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has seen the implementation of community empowerment initiatives.
“We are also working on community health interventions and since inception, PLZ has refurbished Kubatsirana clinic which is the main local clinic accessed by the surrounding communities. We work closely with the clinic and other stakeholders in the district and if there is a health scare, we are made aware as a stakeholder in the community,” she said.
Through such efforts , the company recently resuscitated a borehole which feeds into a 150,000 litre water tank at the clinic.
In yet another project under implementation in partnership with ZESA, PLZ is currently in the process of connecting an LT line so that the clinic and the community have an abundant and continuous water supply.
